Love in a Time of State Violence 2: Love Letters as Practice

Our guests Drs. Tunette Powell, Xigrid Soto-Boykin and Darielle Blevins. They are lead authors on the recent publication Staying Whole and United: A Love Letter and Support Guide for Families Navigating Harmful Immigration Raids and Policies. (Read it in English or Spanish.) The love letter is grounded in interviews with targeted communities. (Read it in English or Spanish.) They will be discussing the love letter in Part 2 of this series on 3/24/26 at 3 pm ET. If you registered for Part 1, you are registered for Part 2. If you haven't registered, you can still do so.

WATCH Session 1: Before We Act, We Learn  from 3/17/26

In moments of political urgency, the instinct is often to act quickly, but responsible action begins with learning.

In the first session, we ground ourselves in the historical and ongoing realities of state-sanctioned violence against immigrant families. We will uplift the experiences of those most impacted, situating today’s events within a longer history of family separation, detention, and policy-driven harm. Together, we will practice sitting with discomfort rather than rushing to fix, rescue, or distance ourselves from what we feel as we expand our capacity to witness harm without turning away. This session is an invitation into deeper learning, accountability, and care.

Register for Session 2: Love Letters as Practice - March 24, 2026 Noon PT/3 pm ET (60 minutes)

Love is practiced.

In session two, we introduce our co-authored love letter and resource guide as tools for grounded, age-responsive support. We will explore how to have conversations with children about immigration, fear, safety, and belonging across developmental stages, including communicating with children with disabilities. Participants will leave with guidance for how parents, educators, and practitioners can show up thoughtfully for all children, while centering the dignity and lived realities of directly impacted families. This session moves us from witnessing to practice, without urgency, without performance and with care.

In this session, the presenters will be drawing from their love letter: "Staying Whole and United: A Love Letter and Support Guide for Families Navigating Harmful Immigration Raids and Policies." It's available in English and Spanish (and currently being translated in other languages) and includes guidance for helping kids at different ages and children with disabilities.

Live Spanish interpretation will be provided.

Can’t attend in real time? Register anyway. A replay will be sent to all who register, so you can engage with the sessions whenever it works for you.
