Xigrid Soto-Boykin
Dr. Xigrid Soto-Boykin (she/her/ella) is a Spanish-English speaking puertorriqueña, who like her beloved island of Borinquen, is sustained by a deep desire to resist and maintain humanity and joy in a society marked with oppression.
As a first-generation college student, Dr. Soto-Boykin has lived in the borderlands of white academic spaces and marginalized communities-giving her a keen perspective and passion for addressing systemic barriers impacting young racialized children who are Latine and other children of color with and without dis/abilities living in under resourced communities. Her work focuses on creating policies, research, and practices to support the academic and social well-being of racialized emergent bilinguals in early childhood though linguistically liberating, and culturally sustaining policies and practices.
Dr. Soto-Boykin is presently an Assistant Research Professor at The Children’s Equity Project at Arizona State University, where her work is at the intersections of early childhood, bilingualism, and dis/ability. Her freedom dream is to create a world where racialized emergent bilinguals with and without dis/abilities are honored, valued, and loved, for who they are-in all the ways and modalities they communicate.
