Who gets drawn? Race, Gender and AI Bias in Children's Media

Race, Gender and AI Bias in Children's Media
October 14 & 21 from noon to 1 pm ET

In this two-session, webinar series, our expert guests, Drs. Kareem Edouard and AnneMarie McClain, show us how to navigate race and gender representation in children's media in these times. They help us understand the media landscape as well as how AI bias is flattening the represented world for kids, and give practical steps that kids and their adults can take to get the diverse representation they need. They point us to great kids media you'll want to know about!

These sessions are free to attend. Register once to gain entry to both and/or to receive the recordings and resources afterwards. Bring your questions and recommendations!

Session 1: Glitch in the Picture: Decoding Race, AI Bias, and Kids' Media
October 14, 2026
noon to 1 pm ET

Kids today learn from shows, books, social feeds, and AI tools, and those media and tools don't treat every child or community the same. This session gives parents, caregivers, and educators a clear picture of what kids are seeing and what research says about race, representation, and AI bias. You'll leave with language and confidence to talk with kids about the media they love.

Session 2: Remix the Screen: Building Anti-Bias Media With Kids
October 21, 2026
noon to 1 pm ET

Now that you've watched, read, or played, and talked with a child, it's time to go deeper. We'll unpack anti-Blackness, gender expansive representation, and bias in how media and AI tools get made, then spotlight shows that get it right. You'll leave with hands-on tools to co-create characters and stories with kids that reflect who they are.
