Lee and Low Books is the largest independent, multicultural children's book publisher in the United States. For 25 years, they've focused on multicultural kid lit and have played a big part in building the field. We asked the indie publisher's Literary Specialist, Katie Potter, to come up with read-aloud children's books that are fantastic stories and but which also support EmbraceRace's vision of "raising a brave generation." Katie came up with 4 lists (!!), each corresponding to one of the four, broad goals of EmbraceRace. Those lists follow.
You can also find these special EmbraceRace book lists on the Lee & Low website.
Want more? For a rich conversation on how to use children's books to spark intentional conversations - whether about sensitive topics or not - be sure to check out our Talking Race & Kids conversation with Katie Potter: Finding and Reading GREAT stories for and with Kids. There you can watch the video, find her "read-aloud" action guide, and find her many links to other great, multicultural story curators and providers around the web. Thanks again to Katie and to Lee and Low Books!
