Racial Learning Development for Young Children

Preparing Kids with Healthy Racial Comebacks V3 1

Overview

Join EmbraceRace for a 5-session bi-weekly class on racial learning development for young children ages 0-5.

Read below for class dates & times, course description, and other registration details:

Course Description

Do young kids really notice race? What can parents & early childhood educators do to nurture healthy racial development and identity?

Join us for an in-depth training on children's racial learning development from the baby through kindergarten years. Participants will expand their understanding of the most current research on children's healthy racial learning, learn practical and age-appropriate ways to nurture an anti-racist environment, and have the opportunity to practice early childhood conversation skills on race. The training is designed for parents, educators, and any adult that plays a meaningful role in the life of a young child, professionally and personally. **Best for caregivers of children ages 0-5.

Courses are five 90-minute bi-weekly virtual sessions, led by an EmbraceRace facilitator. Class sizes range between 8-20 participants.

As part of registration, you will be asked to indicate which group you would like to join.

Not sure if this is a good use of time and hard-earned money? Check out these comments from previous participants:

"I loved that I had a space free of judgment where I was able to talk about sensitive things. I also loved that I was able to find better ways to call in and not out when it comes to having uncomfortable conversations with others about things that matter to me." -POC affinity group participant

"Normally evening commitments on a weekday feel like a burden, but these meetings felt energizing. I really appreciated hearing everyone's perspectives and talking through the discussion topics together. It is helpful to have a space to process race-related issues with other white people because, ironically, it helps me leave behind some of the white dominant culture elements like perfectionism." -White affinity group participant

"We began as strangers and ended as far-flung friends!" -POC affinity group participant

"It was great to talk, listen, learn and grow. Having new resources to explore was also helpful. Great group of people who care to make a difference. [The facilitator] listened to all, and found ways to connect thoughts back to the focus for each evening's conversation. She provided videos and ideas that helped jump start and deepen the conversation....challenging our thinking and encouraging all to stretch in our learning." -White affinity group participant
