John Asante

John Asante (he/him) is an award-winning, independent audio producer, showrunner, and consultant. He’s devoted to crafting stories that shine light on marginalized communities. With every project he takes on, John incorporates his experiences navigating the world as a first-generation Ghanaian American with his formal journalism training. Over the course of his 15+ year career, John has produced and developed over thirty podcasts and public radio programs for companies like Pineapple Street Studios, Neon Hum Media, and Stitcher. He’s made shows for a variety of clients, including HBO, Netflix, WeTransfer, Audible, and The Nation. John began his audio journey in public radio, producing nationally broadcasted radio programs at WNYC and NPR, including The Takeaway, Ask Me Another, and Talk of the Nation. Also, John independently hosted and produced Play It Back, a podcast telling stories of how music lovers discovered the songs that have changed their lives. In his spare time, John mentors rising podcast producers; stays active by running, cycling, hiking, and golfing; dabbles in gardening; and practices the ukulele in anticipation for his next backyard party. Forever he loves his hometown of Atlanta, yet he enjoys living in and exploring Los Angeles with his hilarious wife and two rambunctious cats. John earned his BA in Journalism and Communication from Georgia State University.
