Why & How to Talk about Race with Kids
Overview
Join EmbraceRace for a 5-session weekly class on why and how caregivers can start the conversation about race with their kids!
Read below for class dates & times, course description, and other registration details:
Course Description
Wondering how to respond to a racial comment from your child? Questioning whether or not it would be helpful to step into a conversation about skin color between kids in your classroom? When is it ok to start talking about race with kids anyway?
Our most popular training takes caregivers through the science of when, how, and what children learn about race; what communication about race and racism with kids looks and sounds like, and how caregivers can orient themselves to keep the race conversation going for the long-term. Bring your questions, bring your scenarios, and join us for a thoughtful and practical communal training experience that will help you navigate conversations about race with your kids. The training is designed for parents, educators, and any adult that plays a meaningful role in the life of a child, professionally and personally.
Courses are five 90-minute weekly virtual sessions, led by an EmbraceRace facilitator. Class sizes range between 10-25 participants. **Best for caregivers of children ages 4-13.
As part of registration, you will be asked to indicate which group you would like to join.

- Thursday evenings, 7:30-9pm ET / 4:30-6pm PT: Classes will meet weekly on October 8, October 15, October 22, October 29, and November 5

Not sure if this is a good use of time and hard-earned money? Check out these comments from previous participants:
"I loved that I had a space free of judgment where I was able to talk about sensitive things. I also loved that I was able to find better ways to call in and not out when it comes to having uncomfortable conversations with others about things that matter to me." -POC affinity group participant
"Normally evening commitments on a weekday feel like a burden, but these meetings felt energizing. I really appreciated hearing everyone's perspectives and talking through the discussion topics together. It is helpful to have a space to process race-related issues with other white people because, ironically, it helps me leave behind some of the white dominant culture elements like perfectionism." -White affinity group participant
"We began as strangers and ended as far-flung friends!" -POC affinity group participant
"It was great to talk, listen, learn and grow. Having new resources to explore was also helpful. Great group of people who care to make a difference. [The facilitator] listened to all, and found ways to connect thoughts back to the focus for each evening's conversation. She provided videos and ideas that helped jump start and deepen the conversation....challenging our thinking and encouraging all to stretch in our learning." -White affinity group participant
