Mirna Mejia

Mirna Meija (she/her/ella) is a first-generation Central American female, born in El Salvador and raised in a traditional Latino household in the west coast of the United States since the age of seven. Mirna’s professional career spans over fifteen years in early childhood education, higher education, student programs development and management, and the non-profit sector. She has been part of the Las Vegas community for the past seventeen years, advocating for communities and families through promoting family engagement, education, and quality childcare. A major focus of Mirna’s work has been in diversity, equity, and inclusion, teaching about and promoting anti-bias education and bullying prevention programs with diverse populations in K-20 and early childhood. Mirna’s personal experiences growing up and living within two cultures has significantly influenced her identity as a Latina woman, including her conviction that we are all more alike than we are different. She aims to further equity education to all communities while helping to demystify its goals. She is the proud mother of two biracial daughters who have been taught from early on that differences are to be celebrated. Mirna holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a master’s degree in Education with a concentration in Multicultural Counseling. She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, reading, and getting to know others. Mirna is part of the EmbraceRace Early Childhood Community facilitation team.
