Tamara is a Mexican-American DACAmented Womxn from Chicago currently residing in Colorado. She is a visual storyteller with a mission to utilize social media as a tool to promote social justice and activism.

As a first generation immigrant in the United States, Tamara finds it crucial to create spaces that amplify the voices like her own, people of color and other marginalized communities in the fight for racial and social equity.

Through her work with EmbraceRace she has been able to leverage the power of our social media channels to grow the EmbraceRace community. In her current role, her focus has been designing, writing and sharing empowering social media content that reflect the EmbraceRace mission. Tamara aims to disseminate valuable resources that guide parents, educators and caregivers raising race-brave children. Tamara translates EmbraceRace’s educational content from action guides to webinars into digestible social media content to inspire the EmbraceRace online community to have engaging conversations about race with the children in their life.

Tamara earned a bachelor degree in Communication, Media and Theater from Northeastern Illinois University. In her free time, Tamara is a photographer, specializing in streetlife photojournalism, she has recently created her own online publication and writes for The Denver Voice in Denver, Co. She aspires to be a journalist and early childhood educator one day.

An inspiration:

Tamara finds inspiration in the work of her ancestors, the voices of the writers who have guided her on journey, her small family of two and the community that has uplifted her.
